Food and Nutrition Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture

This division of the USDA is responsible for the administration of all USDA's nutrition assistance programs -- Food Stamps; WIC Program /Farmers' Market; Child Nutrition; Team Nutrition; and Food Distribution. The mission of the FNS is to provide children and needy families better access to food and a more healthful diet through its food assistance programs and comprehensive nutrition education efforts.

Indian Health Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The provision of health services to members of federally-recognized tribes grew out of the special government-to-government relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes. This relationship, established in 1787, is based on Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, and has been given form and substance by numerous treaties, laws, Supreme Court decisions, and Executive Orders. The IHS is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. The IHS provides a comprehensive health service delivery system for approximately 2 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to 566 federally recognized tribes in 35 states. Health services provided include medical, dental, and environmental health programs. Special program concentrations are in disease prevention and health promotion, alcoholism, substance abuse, suicide, accidents, maternal and child health, nutrition, and public health services.

National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion - NCCDPHP
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) consists of nine divisions that support a variety of activities that improve the nation's health by preventing chronic diseases and their risk factors. Program activities include supporting states’ implementation of public health programs; public health surveillance; translation research; and developing tools and resources for stakeholders at the national, state, and community levels. The Center’s surveillance activities provide data and statistics relevant to each of its program areas.

National Health Information Center - NHIC
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

The National Health Information Center (NHIC) is a health information referral service sponsored by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. NHIC puts health professionals and consumers who have health questions in touch with those organizations that are best able to provide answers. Using a database that contains descriptions of health-related organizations, NHIC staff refer people to the most appropriate resource. Spanish language information specialists are available.

Office of National Drug Control Policy, The White House

The principal purpose of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation's drug control program. To achieve this, the Director of ONDCP is charged with producing the National Drug Control Strategy, which directs the Nation's anti-drug efforts and establishes a program, a budget, and guidelines for cooperation among Federal, State, and local entities. By law, the Director of ONDCP also evaluates, coordinates, and oversees both the international and domestic anti-drug efforts of executive branch agencies and ensures that such efforts sustain and complement State and local anti-drug activities. The Director advises the President regarding changes in the organization, management, budgeting, and personnel of Federal Agencies that could affect the Nation's anti-drug efforts; and regarding Federal agency compliance with their obligations under the Strategy.

The President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) is a committee of up to 25 volunteer citizens appointed by the President to serve in an advisory capacity through the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists

The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), founded in 1967, is a nonprofit, professional association dedicated to training, education, and research in the field of sex education. AASECT certifies Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists and cosponsors programs with educational, health, and social institutions. AASECT also sponsors workshops and seminars on such topics as advanced sex education skills and advanced sex therapy skills, in addition to its annual conferences.

American School Health Association

The mission of the American School Health Association is to build the capacity of its members to plan, develop, coordinate, implement, evaluate, and advocate for effective school health strategies that contribute to optimal health and academic outcomes for all children and youth. The American School Health Association envisions healthy students who learn and achieve in safe and healthy environments nurtured by caring adults functioning within coordinated school and community support systems. The Association is a multidisciplinary organization of administrators, counselors, health educators, physical educators, psychologists, school health coordinators, school nurses, school physicians, and social workers. ASHA has more than 2,000 members in 56 countries. More than one-half the members practice in K-12 schools or advise and oversee health education or health services programs in schools or state agencies charged with managing school health programs.

The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools (CHHCS) is a nonpartisan policy and program resource center at George Washington University's School of Public Health and Health Services. The Center's mission is to strengthen the well-being of children and youth through effective health programs and health care services in schools. National Association of Social Workers, Inc.

National Eczema Association

The National Eczema Association (NEA) is a national, patient-oriented organization working to improve the health and the quality of life of all persons living with atopic dermatitis/eczema. NEA provides emotional support, information, and resources to those who have the disease as well as their loved ones, while raising public awareness of the disease. In addition, NEA supports patients through public advocacy and research efforts. Grants are available from NEA to support research in atopic dermatitis. NEA organizes and hosts an annual conference sought to equip patients, their families, and friends to deal with eczema with increased knowledge.

PTA National Headquarters

The National PTA, founded in 1897, comprises 6.5 million members in the 50 States, Washington, DC, the European Congress, and Pacific Congress (serving the Department of Defense schools oversees). There are 26,000 local units. With a goal of bettering the life of children, the PTA serves as an advocate for children, educates parents, and provides services for children, families, and schools. Major health-related activities of the National PTA include, a school bus safety program, an Environmental Action Awareness project, the family and Community Critical Viewing Project, HIV prevention and education project, a violence prevention initiative, and a technology/internet safety program. The School Nutrition Association (SNA)--formerly the American School Food Service Association (ASFSA)--was established in 1946, the year the National School Lunch Act became law. SNA's mission is to advance good nutrition for all children.
